How do you blog?

I mentioned here that to some, blogging is a craft. I truly believe this. It's something that even if you're blog pours through your fingertips and pops up on screen as a masterpiece, or if all you do is post fashion, it's acceptable! There are folks who want to read exactly what you've written! Which is pretty awesome, in my opinion.

That being said, it does put some sort of pressure on you once you've started a blog. How often to blog? What to blog about? How involved to get with fellow bloggers? It can all seem overwhelming at first. Well, it can become overwhelming at any point really. So, how do you blog? Do you sit somewhere, void of noise and distractions? A coffee house perhaps? Do you knock out a weeks worth of posts in one day? Or maybe fly by the seat of your pants day by day? For such a public forum, writing your posts is such a personal one.

The most important thing I can suggest to new bloggers, (not that I'm a pro) or even seasoned bloggers who may be burning out of the whole thing, is to organize your thoughts. I use my drafts and my planner for this.  I have my fabulous Erin Condren planner, that I write down posts for the week. That way I can space the DIYs, posts about faith, photography, just whatever I will post about, I can write it down and see exactly what days I want to post what. It makes it so you have a wide spectrum over the week.

Also, I have drafts, loads and loads of drafts. Where even as I'm writing posts, I can quickly jump over to the drafts and type out an idea of another post. When I am out of ideas to post, I go and work on the drafts. It makes it a bit easier and you don't have to loose any ideas!

I tend to write one week ahead for most posts. I feel it puts less pressure on me if I have a few days already scheduled so I can focus on content rather than just putting something up just for the sake of having published a post. I also like to take my laptop and write in the living room where I can watch TV or cook. It's hard for me to concentrate on just one thing, so this works best for me.

And that's the beauty of this, you can blog any way you'd like! But, I do want to know, how do you blog?

  1. I've been attempting to plan posts out a week in advance but there are times when I am not able to get them all written. Thus, I find writing the day or night before. I have started using a planner and have a list of ideas. My goal is to have things more planned but there are times when I feel like I just need to blog about how I feel. I'm still very much in a learning curve.

  2. You know, for some reason it bothers me to have a bunch of drafts sitting in blogger. I don't know why. Therefore I use evernote or my physical journal to keep track of ideas and drafted posts. But it's just a preference. These are some great points and tips though!

  3. I've recently been trying to organize and schedule my posts more which is really nice even though most of the time I still write the posts a day or two days in advance. And I have a notebook chalked full of ideas and half written posts too. Love these tips!

  4. They are really good suggestions. I think my issue at the moment is motivation. I have such bursts of right I'll get organised and write all these ideas for posts in my diary and then the day comes, I look at it and say yes I'll do that and then move onto the next thing - so maybe focus as well as motivation haha ;)
I like to actually write on my laptop propped up in bed though - the time before my husband comes to bed and I have some quiet alone time. Usually at night when all my thoughts come together from the day, or the week or something I've been thinking about and it comes into my mind and I have to get it out.
Really love the whole process though. The feeling I get of having written something out - it so often clarifies a lot of feelings or questions I have been thinking about. Especially faith workings. The best thing I ever did for myself and my own time thats for sure!

  5. I'm really interested in this, too. I blog generally 2-3 times a week. The only "rule" I have for myself is to post something travel related on Monday or Tuesday. After that, it's all fair game! When I realize that a thought of mine might make a great post, I write a sentence or two about it in a draft and leave it there until I can work on it - usually the day or night before I post it. My writing is most often inspired by the play-by-play of life as it happens, so I don't tend to write posts more than a day or two in advance.

  6. It's so hard for me to plan post ahead of time. Most of the time I'm just 'flying by the seat of my pants.' I do try to plan out my post topics though!

  7. I used to do so well at getting posts done early, but lately I've slacked. It's something I need to get back in the habit of doing. Stopping by from the hop! New follower!
