Marriage and Relationship Link up, June

It's time for our monthly Marriage and Relationship Link-up with Amberly from Life with Amberly and Joe! If you would like to participate, you have about a week to post and link-up with us. Directions are at the bottom!
So, for the last couple of months, I've been trying to focus on the fact that basically, God left a God sized keyhole in our hearts that only He can fill. Our husbands, as amazing as they are, are not meant to fill that part of us. You can read the post from last month here
I have to say that I think this will always be a struggle for me. It can't be fixed in a month, or two, or three. Trust is a huge obstacle for me, and I will continue to work on that. For this month, however, I need to change it up and work on being a great best friend to my Mr.
Every part of our relationship is amazing. I really don't have gigantic complaints. However, I know there is always room for improvement. I once read a quote from a couple in their 80's, celebrating their 60th anniversary. The burning question everyone always wants to know, "How do you stay married for so long?" Their answer, "We are each other's best friend." MIND BLOWN.  I mean, I know that you need to have a friendship. Often times, you may see folks together that actually started out as friends. I don't know about you, but I quickly see how "life" gets in the way of being each other's best friend. You're both tired at the end of the day, you (insert many problems here).... blah blah blah. We forget that we need to be best friends! We often focus a "date night" on the romance part of it, but what about just the random things that make someone your best friend? Sitting around, eating popcorn, watching a completely idiotic movie and laughing just because it's dumb! Or playing mini golf just because it's fun.
I am guilty of this. So this month, I will focus on being my soul mate's BFF! And I can't wait to see how this goes!

  4. Oh what a great goal! I need to work on this too! I love what you said about date nights usually being romantic. We usually stay away from the typical "romantic" dates, but I think my mind is still on the romantic when we go out. I should focus more on the friendship sometimes and see where that takes us. Great goal!
